My Path in Psychoanalysis
I have been in private practice since 1998, offering a safe and supportive environment for people to explore their lives, histories, and desires for change. My training in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy has been informed by years of education and clinical experience. My professional journey began in clinical social work, where I developed a deep respect for the ways individuals are shaped by both their inner world and their external environment. As I worked more closely with people struggling with complex emotional lives, I was drawn toward a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the unconscious mind. This led me to intensive training in psychoanalysis, where I have spent years studying and practicing this rigorous and transformative approach to understanding human experience.

Training & Supervision
Beyond my work with individuals, I am a board-certified training and supervising analyst, working with clinicians and candidates in psychoanalytic training. Psychoanalysis is an evolving discipline, and I believe that thoughtful, immersive supervision is essential in developing skilled and reflective practitioners.

My role as a supervisor extends beyond guidance—I work with clinicians to help them refine their capacity for listening, deepen their understanding of unconscious processes, and strengthen their ability to engage in meaningful analytic work. I also emphasize the importance of understanding and utilizing countertransference (CT) – the clinician's own emotional responses – as a valuable tool for insight in the clinical process.

I spent seven years at Tulane University’s Department of Psychiatry and Student Health, and I have served on the board of the New Orleans Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center for 25 years in various roles, including President, Vice President, Chair of Outreach, and Chair of the Progress Committee, among others.
My Approach
Psychoanalysis is not about offering quick fixes or symptom relief strategies (though these techniques are essential tools for managing distress). Instead, it is a process of uncovering, questioning, and making sense of the deeper forces that shape who we are. In my practice, I provide a warm, professional, and confident approach to therapy. I believe healing can occur in many ways, but I have found that providing a space for individuals to explore their minds, express their stories, and uncover what’s hidden – fears, wishes, patterns, and strengths. My approach is relational, meaning that the connection between the therapist and client is integral to the therapeutic process. It’s not just about gaining insight into one’s thoughts but also engaging in a meaningful relationship that fosters growth, healing, and transformation.
